Diss - a Game of Shame and Glory. for Introduction to games, Eytan Majar, second year
The course challenged us to design a game that evokes conflicting emotions in its players. Our group set out to create a game where the pride of winning constantly clashes with the sting of shame.
The game is played by seven participants and is structured around a series of anonymous votes. The questions focus on the group members themselves - for example: Who’s the most attractive? Who’s the laziest? Who’s always horny at the wrong time? Who is sexually aroused by public humiliation?
Since the players choose the questions themselves, they’re trapped in a paradox: their instinct is to select questions that cast them in a positive light, but doing so risks exposing the social image they’re afraid to confront. In each round, the “winner” of the vote is announced, and the room fills with blushed faces - anger, envy, shame, and glory all colliding at once.
We designed the game in a bold but simple design, for the content of the cards is the real show. the game box is also a tissue dispenser for when things get to emotional...
